Manchester United's summer of transfer woes could quickly be forgotten with theMirrorreporting that the Red Devils could make a January play for Aston Villa's Christian Benteke. United failed to lure many of their major targets to Old Trafford in the last transfer window, but boss David Moyes is confident he can add Benteke to the club's striking department next year. Benteke has become hot property after his goals kept Villa in the Premier League last season, but Villa will fight to keep their Belgium international especially after they tied him down to a new £60,000-a-week contract in July.
And the good news doesn't stop there withThe Telegraphclaiming that unsettled striker Wayne Rooney will stay with club as rumours emerge that he will be offered a new contract. Rooney dominated the transfer headlines this summer with United's rivals Chelsea pushing for the England striker to make the move to Stamford Bridge. But despite Rooney's current deal expiring in 2015, reports suggest United are ready to offer a new,lengthy deal to ward away the interest of Blues mentor Jose Mourinho.
And finally, could Arsene Wenger's long search for an experienced goalkeeper finally be coming to an end? According toThe Sun, the answer is a definite 'yes' with Arsenal stepping up their interest in Spain custodian Iker Casillas. The 32-year-old Casillas hasn't played a game for his club, Real Madrid, this season but is still the number one for his country, and has remained in the cross-hairs of Arsenal. Wenger rates Casillas as the perfect man to guard the club's goal-line but he may have trouble luring him to the Emirates with Premier League rival Manchester City also taking an interest in the Spain captain.
